Allanite

(Ca,Ce)₂(Al,Fe²⁺,Fe³⁺)₃(SiO₄)(Si₂O₇)O(OH) · sorosilicate

Allanite is a trace mineral at Orión — quantified only in the bulk channel samples, in fractions of a per cent, and reported as negligible in the drill holes.

Why it matters

As general mineralogy, not an Osmond figure, allanite is a rare-earth-bearing silicate — a silicate host for rare earths rather than a phosphate one, which is why it is counted as its own mineral in an assemblage that also carries rare-earth phosphates.

What Osmond has reported at Orión is narrow. On a mass-balance basis dated 19 February 2026, allanite was quantified only in the bulk channel samples, at 0.02–0.24%; in the drill holes it is reported as negligible. That is a figure for the channel samples, set against total heavy minerals of 29.4–32.8% in the same samples, with up to roughly 40% estimated in the AV-01bis interval.

Past that, the record thins out and the thinness is the fact. Allanite has no concentrate grade and no recovery figure; no rare-earth oxide grade is reported for allanite itself; and the bulk-sample percentage is a mass-balance estimate calculated from oxide assays rather than a directly measured mineral content. The drill holes, the wider of the two sample sets, record it as negligible.

Quantified in the bulk channel samples only, at trace level and on a mass-balance basis; reported as negligible in the drill holes, with no rare-earth grade of its own and no deposit-wide figure.
